Soils are a basis of life on Earth as they are the substance plants grow on. Without plants performing photosynthesis and providing nutrients, humans could not exist on our planet. And while everyone learned about photosynthesis in school, the processes happening in the soil are often neglected. Even if soils seem to to look all the same, they are quite divers and depending on the location and climatic conditions, different processes happen in them.
On the following pages, I want to share insights on carbon sequestration in soils and the discussion surrounding this important topic. Most carbon in the soils is stored in the form of soil organic matter and its composition and properties can tell us more about soil carbon dynamics.

In case you want to know more about soils in general, I advise you to explore the FAO soils portal or just look up soils in your preferred search engine.
